Automatic detection relies on the selectable text layer. Handwritten notes or scanned images without OCR must be OCRed first or redacted manually with Redact PDF.
How PDFolio helps you auto redact PDF
PDFolio inspects every text item and its bounding coordinates via PDF.js, matches selected PII regex patterns and custom terms, renders affected pages to high-resolution images with solid black redaction boxes, and rebuilds the PDF without the underlying text layer.

A private way to auto redact PDF
PDFolio handles the selected files in the active browser tab. A Web Worker on your device performs the PDF task so the interface can remain responsive; document bytes are not sent to a PDF processing server, upload queue, account database, or advertising platform.

- Process locally and inspect the redacted PDF before sharing.
Vale saber: Pages containing matches are rasterized after black boxes are painted over the text so the underlying text layer is completely destroyed.

Can someone copy-paste the text from under the black boxes?
No. Every page where a redaction occurs is flattened into a bitmap image after painting the black boxes, permanently removing the underlying text stream.
How can I remove SSNs, Aadhaar numbers, PAN numbers, or account IDs from a PDF?
Enable the built-in PII detectors or enter specific IDs/names in the Custom words or IDs field. Auto-Redact PII locates every occurrence and permanently blacks it out locally with no watermark.
Can I redact specific client names or account numbers?
Yes. Enter comma-separated names or terms in the Custom terms field.
Does auto redact PDF change my original file?
No. PDFolio creates a new file for download. Your source file remains unchanged on your device.
