About edit PDF metadata

View, edit, or completely remove hidden metadata properties like Author, Title, and Subject from a PDF. Clean a document of personal information before distributing it publicly, or add proper title and author fields for SEO and accessibility.

Editing covers the document information dictionary, the fields a PDF reader shows in its properties panel. Title, author, and subject can be set individually, and the clear option additionally blanks keywords, producer, and creator. What it does not touch is everything else a file can carry: XMP metadata packets, metadata attached to individual objects, and EXIF data inside embedded images all survive, so this is a tidying tool rather than a forensic scrub. Saving the document also rewrites its modification timestamp.

How PDFolio helps you edit PDF metadata

PDFolio uses a local Web Worker to manipulate the PDF document information dictionary. This happens securely within your browser tab.

If the concern is visible content rather than file properties, Redact PDF and Delete Pages act on the page itself. If a form's contents are the sensitive part, Flatten PDF fixes the values in place, and rasterising through PDF to Images discards essentially all embedded metadata at the cost of the text layer.

Before you download

Stripping metadata removes properties that may be useful for indexing software, so only remove it when privacy is a priority.

When the result is ready, download it immediately and open it in your usual PDF viewer to make a final check. You can then use Clear task data to release temporary file references from this browser tab. PDFolio does not create an account, cloud folder, or server-side document history.

A private way to edit PDF metadata

PDFolio handles the selected files in the active browser tab. A Web Worker on your device performs the PDF task so the interface can remain responsive; document bytes are not sent to a PDF processing server, upload queue, account database, or advertising platform.

Steps

  1. Add a PDF.
  2. Enter new metadata values or check the remove option.
  3. Process and download the updated PDF.

Good to know: Modifying metadata does not change the visual content of the document.
