About redact PDF

Permanently cover sensitive information with black redaction areas. Hide sensitive financial data or personal information before sharing a document.

One rectangle is applied, given as x,y,width,height in PDF points measured from the bottom-left corner, at the same coordinates on every page you select. Only selected pages are rasterized; unselected pages are copied unchanged.

How PDFolio helps you redact PDF

PDFolio renders each selected page as an image, paints the requested area black, and creates a new PDF page from that result.

Always open the downloaded result and confirm the black area fully covers the sensitive material. For an extra check, use Extract Text on the result and confirm the removed words are absent.

Before you download

Rasterized pages no longer contain selectable text, links, form fields, or editable annotations. Image quality is preserved at a high rendering scale, but the result can be larger than the original.

When the result is ready, download it immediately and open it in your usual PDF viewer to make a final check. You can then use Clear task data to release temporary file references from this browser tab. PDFolio does not create an account, cloud folder, or server-side document history.

A private way to redact PDF

PDFolio handles the selected files in the active browser tab. A Web Worker on your device performs the PDF task so the interface can remain responsive; document bytes are not sent to a PDF processing server, upload queue, account database, or advertising platform.

Good to know: Selected pages are rasterized so covered text and images are removed from the PDF content layer.

Is redaction secure?

Selected pages are rasterized before the black area is applied, so their original text and image content layer is not preserved. Always verify the downloaded result before sharing it.

Does redact PDF change my original file?

No. PDFolio creates a new file for download. Your source file remains unchanged on your device.
