About PDF to audio

Extract a clean, speech-ready narration script from a PDF and listen immediately using the built-in browser voice player. Listen to research papers, study guides, long reports, or articles hands-free while commuting or resting your eyes.

Requires a PDF with selectable text. Run OCR PDF first on image-only scans.

How PDFolio helps you PDF to audio

PDFolio extracts the PDF text layer, rejoins hyphenated line wraps, strips repetitive page numbers, displays the cleaned narration script, and wires it directly to your browser’s Web Speech API (`speechSynthesis`).

If you prefer to read on an e-reader with adjustable font sizes, use PDF to EPUB.

Before you download

You can pause, resume, or change playback speed at any time without reprocessing the PDF.

When the result is ready, download it immediately and open it in your usual PDF viewer to make a final check. You can then use Clear task data to release temporary file references from this browser tab. PDFolio does not create an account, cloud folder, or server-side document history.

A private way to PDF to audio

PDFolio handles the selected files in the active browser tab. A Web Worker on your device performs the PDF task so the interface can remain responsive; document bytes are not sent to a PDF processing server, upload queue, account database, or advertising platform.

Steps

  1. Add a text-based PDF and optionally select pages to read.
  2. Click Process to clean hyphenations, headers, and reading flow.
  3. Use the Read Aloud player controls (Play, Pause, Stop, Speed) to listen immediately in your browser.

Good to know: Use the interactive Read Aloud bar in the result panel to listen with your system’s native neural voices at 0.75x to 2x speed.

Frequently asked questions
