About annotate PDF pages

Add a highlight, box, or note to selected pages. Create a visible review copy with a repeated highlight, box, or short note across the pages that need attention.

Marks are placed at fixed coordinates rather than positioned by you: the highlight and the box land at preset points roughly 15 percent in from the left edge, and cannot be dragged or aimed at a particular word or line. One kind of mark is applied per run, either a translucent yellow highlight, an outlined blue box, or a short text note in Helvetica, which restricts notes to Latin characters. The marks are drawn into the page content rather than created as PDF annotation objects, so a reader will not let anyone select, reply to, or delete them.

How PDFolio helps you annotate PDF pages

Choose an annotation type and optional note text, then select the target pages. PDFolio creates an annotated copy while the original document remains separate, which is useful for a simple mark-up pass or a review hand-off.

For text that should run across the whole page, Watermark gives control over position, rotation, and opacity. For hiding rather than pointing at something, Redact PDF draws an opaque box, though its own limits are worth reading first. To lock down an existing set of comments or form fields, Flatten PDF is the tool.

Before you download

Annotations have a consistent placement on every targeted page. This is predictable for repeat marks but is not a free-position drawing canvas. Make a small, deliberate page selection when location matters.

When the result is ready, download it immediately and open it in your usual PDF viewer to make a final check. You can then use Clear task data to release temporary file references from this browser tab. PDFolio does not create an account, cloud folder, or server-side document history.

A private way to annotate PDF pages

PDFolio handles the selected files in the active browser tab. A Web Worker on your device performs the PDF task so the interface can remain responsive; document bytes are not sent to a PDF processing server, upload queue, account database, or advertising platform.

Steps

  1. Add a PDF.
  2. Choose an annotation type and optional text.
  3. Select pages and process the export.

Good to know: Annotations use a consistent placement in this version; free-position canvas annotation is not available yet.
